Off for Christmas

Headed up north for a few days tomorrow for Christmas, so Merry Christmas to all! Here's what other random things have been going on.

Travelling
Looks like I'll be heading to Asia on the 19th of January. Fucking stressed at the moment as I didn't get allll of the immunisations I should have. The final one I need is a serious of 3 injections over the course of 3-4 weeks, not sure if I'll have time to get it. Trampaids here I come!

Also not too sure what flights to book. One way flights to/from Phuket cost like £450 more than a return, but I'd like to leave the trip open. I've noticed that it's possible to fly back a bit cheaper from Hong Kong, so tempted to head there via Bangkok for a couple of weeks on the way back. Bleh, I hate organising stuff, might just one way it and leave the whole thing open.

Poker
Not put many hands in this month. Been working on my game instead. Although I have jumped on the tables when the games have been particularly soft and had good results, so I probably won't be having as bad a month as I thought.

Studying
I've been beasting studying over the last week or two. I purchased the Slowhabit/CTS book and have been working pretty hard with that and encorporating things into my game. In the short term this will probably mean I'll play like a total spewmonkey while trying things out (see hand at bottom), but in the long term I think it'll work really well for me. Is it worth the almost $2k pricetag? Drop me an email if you'd like to know what I think.

I've also signed up to DeucesCracked recently and am VERY impressed. The Krantz videos are freaking amazing, him and FoxfoodsFiend are very very good at explaining things. Watched about half of the Parallels series now, awesome stuff. It's only like $25ish a month, well worth it.

Coaching
Done a bunch of coaching this month with two new students which I think has went really well, should have 7-8 hours of coaching in by the end of the month. I feel like I'm able to give good advice and I think the guys are happy with the service they're receiving. Will be offering a coaching packages in the new year.

I'll leave you with an interesting hand... genius or spew? :)

Lol, didn't expect that river raise! I'm not sure it's necessary to be honest! A guy of his nature is going to double barrel when that king comes nearly all the time. For that reason your QQ still has excellent showdown value on the turn. The river card is a blank for both your ranges. It's unlikely he has 55 (but possible) and near impossible for you to have 55. I think the debate at the river should be whether you call or fold. Does he triple barrel here or value-bet a lesser hand enough to make a call profitable? Maybe? At the nit filled NL$200 that I play at this would be a clear river fold.

However, your raise seems designed to fold out AA and AK/QK. You beat pretty much anything else he'd have anyway so don't need to raise them out. Given the board you are representing a very narrow range to these hands and I think you are relying on villain to make a VERY strong fold and ultimately you are trying to fold him off a small part of his range when you could just call and probably beat a far larger part anyway.

I think on balance I'm going to go with spew on this one.

Hmm - not sure dude. Spew in the sense that you have to fold to a push BUT it is a line that will get weaker hands to call in certain spots and better hands to fold in certain spots.

The key is knowing your opponent. If he was uber disicplined on river or uber spew on river and you had a good feel for which it was - could be genius.

Meh - who knows. I'm a a bankroll nit playing at nl100! :-)

Happy Xmas, Baz, you spew monkey!

I agree about DC btw, Parallels ftw!

/me thinks you're trying to induce a call and strike fear into villain's soul.

TBH, I think the play is brilliant. Your line looks like a well played 7 here as well as something like JJ. Against this type of player, I think he might not fold enough here to show a profit, but I am willing to guess that it is a pretty close to even EV. With that said, if you break even or lose just a little bit of EV, you will make it up in equity from other hands because the hand is played very strange for the actual hand you have.

Merry Christmas

Results?

How is the book? I know a few people who wanted to buy the book and don't know if it will be worth it.

How does it hold against other learning tools?

Danny, what you've said is little different from saying, "Raise the river with any two cards, your opponent won't always have a good enough hand to call, the play will probably not be very profitable, if at all, but the metagame implications are excellent!"
