March Review

SNGS
Mixed it up a bit this month and tried playing a few new SNGs. After being tipped that the quality of play is currently a lot weaker than Stars I deposited $500 into Party and played some $33 Turbo STTs. I found that often through the week there were a lot of pretty good multi-tablers playing, however with good game selection (particuarly at the weekend) these are an absolute goldmine. You rarely see good old fashioned FISH any more at the Stars $27s, I'm not talking about players who cold call OOP with A6o. I mean players who will re-raise you all in on the river without even a pair. At Party you get at least one of these players per STT! Within 5 minutes of playing my first game, I saw a 4-way all-in! On a $33 single table tourney!! So I really like these at the moment. :>

Back at Stars, they've opened up new $27 5-table turbos which are great fun. In the 2-tables you generally get 3-5 strong players, in the 5-tables I find it's the same... 3-5 strong players. So the fish/sharks ratio is better at the 5-tables, than the 2-tables. They fill up surprisingly quick too. I took one of these down (for $350), giving me a really nice ROI% for these so far.

Back at the $27 2-tables, it's pretty much business as usual. Noticed a few new multi-tablers playing, one of which is pretty strong. But i'm still profitting well in these.

Next month I'll probably continue with the Party $33s, aiming to run my Party balance up to $1,000 to maybe take a stab at the $55s. I'm sure i'd profit nicely in them... just a pity there's no rakeback or decent points system at Party. I'll also continue with the $27 5-tables at Stars, as I think these could be real profitable too.

Online MTTs
Again, not much luck here. I play MTTs mostly with a few beers when I'm in the mood for some fun, which is probably why I'm not performing too well in them. I only played a few MTTs this month, but I bubbled 2 of them with reckless plays. It seems that after playing in a tourney for a few hours I want to throw my chips away. Gonna try to keep my play pretty ABC during the money stages of the next MTTs I play.

Live MTTs
Won the Officepoker tourney at Cascades! £30 freezeout, 62 runners. Good for £550, and a trophy. £30 was my buy-in, and I tipped the casino £20, so £500 profit here, equating to about $1,000. Nice! The difference in this tourney was that I picked up chips at the start. I didn't need to play tight throughout, and I was able to push people around and make some moves. I can understand why players like Raymer like to take risks to build a big stack early on. After building my stack I was able to constantly chip away at other players, comfortably moving on to the final table, where my SNG play could kick in. Hopefully I'll get the chance to play in this months tourney to defned my title.

Books
Slacked off on the book front this month. Basically read nothing. :S Not gonna worry too much about that, though. I found a fantastic site to download poker torrents at. (www.pokerbay.org) Watched the 2005 WSOP (Raymer), WPT Season 2, and currently watching WPT Season 3. I love watching poker on TV, mainly to chill out, but also I think it helps me get a feel for hand vs. hand percentages. Seeing a lot of hands played, it becomes easier to remember the percentages for hand vs. hand situations, which I've been finding useful. Also watching High Stakes Poker Season 3, via youtube, at the moment. Which is fantastic.

Next month... In Munich over the easter weekend, for a break. Gonna be checking out some of the massive beer gardens, and also the Neuschwanstien Castle. Will get some home game action on the go after the current deadline at work is done too. Determined to final table the Officepoker tourney again as well. Hopefully another good month to come...
